Pennsylvania Street Gardens

Celebrating a decade of volunteer work

In late 2008 I started building a new garden in Potrero Hill, purely for the fun of beautifying my neighborhood. Ten years later, Pennsylvania Street Gardens is an established entity, hosting monthly volunteer days and maintaining over an acre of ornamental community gardens at two sites in San Francisco.

Funded by grants written by myself and my team, we have transformed the area, driven by the goal of promoting water-wise gardening in a city plagued by drought.

As the founder, designer, volunteer leader and manager of the sites, Iā€™m grateful for the support of the land owners - Caltrans and SF Public Works - as well as our fiscal sponsor, the San Francisco Park Alliance, through whom we are a 501(c)3 non profit organization.s

Accolades over the years include awards from the Potrero Boosters Neighborhood Association, the State of California - Senator Mark Leno, Friends of the Urban Forest, and San Francisco Beautiful.

I regularly give talks on the subject of overcoming the various hurdles of landscape design in a tough environment to various gardening groups in the bay area, and host tours, workshops and corporate volunteer days for the likes of Genentech, California College of Art, City College of San Francisco and SF State University
